Avalon

Avalon marched with a lightness in his step as he led Oliver and Suada on the way to Gordrell. Things were going smoothly. The guild had promising new members and when he and Oliver and Suada returned, they’d complete the guildhall, giving them their spot to thrive in the game. Who knew, maybe they’d replicate their efforts when they got to New Aspen, if colony life allowed for something like it.

“You seem eager, Avalon,” Suada said from behind.

“It’ll be our first time to Gordrell after completing the leadership quest, so I’ll be able to see firsthand how much my efforts helped them. It’s just like some of those RPGs where you get to see how your actions change the rest of the game world.” Avalon smiled. “Especially since we’re doing a supply run, we’ll be able to hear directly from the merchants how their businesses are doing since the new trade agreements and stopping Ursa Major from completing their quest. It’s one thing to see it on a TV screen, but to actually live it, yeah I’m eager.”

“Yeah. It’ll be cool to see how they’re doing.” Oliver sounded as excited as Avalon felt.

“Definitely.” Avalon pointed ahead. “And we should be seeing the city gate soon.”

Someone nearby screamed. “Help me!”

Avalon drew his bow and dagger. “Let’s go.” He took off running in the direction the sound had come from.

A short Beaver was running away from a group of Bears.

“Oliver, Suada, wait here but be ready to act.” Avalon rushed past the Beaver. “Go stand by the others.”

Stopping, the Bears raised their weapons.

The large white-furred Bear growled. “Avalon.” Despite his attempt to intimidate, the others took a step back.

Keeping his dagger in hand with a strong two-finger grip, Avalon nocked an arrow. “I heard some of you were still causing trouble around here. I guess, since word is out that we’re building our guild home nearby, you guys are attempting to cut us off from the rest of the server.”

“So, what if we are?” The white bear pointed his sword at Avalon.

“You all clearly never learn. Every time you try to go against us, we win, and we’ve proven over and over that your numbers don’t mean much when we’re just that much stronger than you guys. Actually, to prove a point—” Avalon turned his head slightly “—Suada, come over here.”

She dashed over to him. “What?”

Avalon lowered his voice. “Just didn’t want the kid to hear me say it like this, but how about you dominate these guys and show them who’s really on top?”

Suada nodded with a smirk.

The white Bear laughed. “The weakest member of your guild is going to beat us? I’d like to see her try.”

There was a shift in the air as Suada glared at them and roared. “Run away or die!”

Everything went quiet for a moment as the white Bear froze. His allies behind him dropped their weapons and fled.

“What was that about me being weak?” Suada readied her bow.

Without another word, the white Bear escaped.

The danger was gone, so Avalon turned to the Beaver.
